OUTREACH BY THE NUMBERS
Founded in Ghana during 2011, INTED is a nonprofit-organized response to the quality issues in the country’s secondary education sector. Since its inception during 2011, INTED has developed over 300 hours of bespoke professional development programmes, built a client list of over 55 schools, and built the capacity of 35 local trainers who directly trained over 1,900 teachers and heads, which has led to the possible impact on an estimated 60,000 students. – November, 2019
We believe enduring desire is a critical element of success in any endeavour – it is the fuel that drives our endeavours. We seek to work with school leaders, teachers, staff, and volunteers who have a genuine passion for our work – those that have an honest and authentic interest in improving student achievement.
We seek to work with professionals who recognize their own shortcomings and are appreciative of opportunities to continue to improve. We look for teachers and leaders who respect and learn from the strengths, abilities and experiences of others.
We believe in a concerted and collective attitude – we will work for schools as a unit, engaging only when its leaders (heads and assistant heads) and teachers are ready to create and work in a collaborative and supportive environment. We believe in working together with empathic understanding for team members regardless of background.
We will work with teachers who are focused on and committed to success. Our results-driven approach is also a data-oriented one: our intensive interactive programmes are followed by year-long support, during which academic heads and teachers are assisted as they monitor and practice what they have learnt. We use a systematic process to track performance and adapt for results, one that requires adherence, dedication, and rapt student centeredness.
INTED seeks to change the trajectory of students by way of teachers and school leaders. Through career and life-changing experiences targeted at pre-tertiary teachers and leaders, the Institute will bring new resources, methods of pedagogy, content delivery, class and school management, and student development to schools. INTED will enhance the capability of pre-tertiary schools to have a measurable beneficial impact on students.
Our admin and master fellow teams are in constant search for improvement; we set a high standard of achievement for our teaching professionals in their work with students, and we strive to show the way.
Our History
INTED's STORY
Kwabena Ennin Amporful and Israel Titi Ofei first met in 1995 at SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College in Tema, Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Kwabena was then a high school student, and Titi the Vice Principal of the same school.
They reconnected fourteen years later in 2009 when Kwabena returned to Ghana after his MBA studies at Stanford University to co-head Private Equity at Databank, then a boutique investment bank in Ghana. Kwabena often participated in various SOS-HGIC functions, including addressing SOS-HGIC students during Friday morning assembly programmes.
Upon aligning on the potential for teacher professional development to improve the low level of secondary student achievement across Ghana, Kwabena and Titi transformed their “student and teacher” into a “mentor and mentee” partnership to shape the early design and development of INTED. Over a number of Sunday afternoons in 2010, Titi guided Kwabena’s teacher professional development research, and ultimately, sowed the early seeds towards forming Institute of Teacher Education and Development.
Kwabena formed Institute of Teacher Education and Development in Ghana in 2011, thanks to the Social Innovation Fellowship of Stanford University that provided funding and 1-year support to start INTED. Titi and Kwabena worked closely to bring on advisors, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and our first team of Master Fellows to embark on the mission of INTED.
During 2015, with the help of INTED’s advisors, Kwabena and Titi applied for and received the Skills Development Fund Grant, bringing COTVET on board as a major funding partner to continue to lay INTED’s foundations, and help deepen the reach and impact of the budding organization. This seminal step in its development also helped INTED strengthen its core of trainers, or Master Fellows, and develop new programmes to more directly impact teachers and their heads in their schools.
Kwabena and Titi continue to support INTED’s team of administrators, Master Fellows, and stakeholders to design and deliver innovative curricula and programmes to teachers and heads across Ghana, in service of INTED’s initial goal, to improve the quality of teaching and student outcomes across Ghana.
