Programme Structure and Scheduling
Programme Structure: The LGLP is an intervention whose three training tiers will be delivered in a format that is interspersed throughout the 2020/21 academic year. Please see the programme timeline and schedule addendum to this document. With the pilot designed for units of 20 teacher leaders selected from 12 participant schools, the programme has a strong focus on the Core subject leaders and impact on female teacher leaders and students. As a leadership development programme, all participants are required to complete all tiers, with specialization in participant modules at the tier II. Below is a description of how the programme will be structured and delivered during each tier.
All tiers comprise (1) presentation/lecture style training in the morning and (2) practice sessions (called “Design Studio”) in the afternoon where in subject area or school teams, trainees practice embedding the new strategies or leadership moves into their lesson or school planning and delivery. The morning “lecture” session starts after orientation and team building activities and lasts from 8:30am to 12:30pm, with a brief break around 10:30am, and is followed by a scheduled lunch break between from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. For the “practice” session, the Design Studio for teachers is run from 1:30pm till about 4:30pm, in parallel with Leadership sessions for Heads (for the Top 4 participants per school, Tier I only).
COVID Note: As part of COVID protocols, online provisions will be made to accommodate a third of participants who are well-equipped to participate through Zoom. Schools and participants are required to complete pre-registration and online setups and pre-testing, and will be responsible for the logistics and preparations necessary to fully participate in and complete the programme. Those attending in person will be expected to observe all COVID protocols; however, INTED will provide extra personal protective equipment and will go over protocols on a daily basis in adherence to prevailing COVID guidelines and health advisories.
Programme Scheduling
The Tier I segment is a set of three-day modules, and while all 20 participants per school will participate in the Teaching Practice morning segment, only the top four heads of each school team will join the Instructional Leadership Programme.
The Instructional Leadership (IL) programme is designed for Heads of Department, Assistant Heads, and the Head of School (“Heads”), who build leadership practices around the prerequisite teaching practice modules in the morning.
The IL session, run in the afternoon simultaneous to the “Design Studio” session for all other participants, is devised to train the “Heads” to support their teachers to correctly use the new teaching strategies in the classrooms, ending with the formulation and adoption of department “Action Plans” with the teachers at the very end. Instructional Leadership is designed to also allow the Heads to observe and work with their teachers in portions of the Design Studio, as part of its leadership session.
The Tier II segment comprises four-day module sets for each of the four core subjects that will be held concurrently. Each of the 20 participants will be regrouped into the four subject modules, mixing with same-subject teachers from other participating schools. As with Tier I, the morning interactive lectures will be complemented with the practice-focused Design Studios in the afternoon. The exception will be Science, which will be practical in nature in its entirety.
The Tier III segment is two-day set of leadership seminars for all participants. The structure will be case-based participatory learning that will draw heavily on user and school experiences.
LGLP Programme Support: Our team of administrators and Master Fellow instructors are available to provide pre- and post-training to interact with and support participant schools and teachers. The INTED Team will provide information and briefing sessions to all school heads and participants before the programme, and will debrief with the Head and Assistant Heads at the end of each tier’s segment.
